Kerri Simpson

Kerri Simpson's powerful voice realizes the essence of a song - whether it's jazz, blues, gospel, country or R&B. Sun's Gonna Shine, her sixth independent CD, is just out this month and, with its stripped-back acoustic sound and superlative production, is bound to be acclaimed by both critics and public.
Songs include a co-write with the New Orleans songwriting partnership of Jason Neville and Norman Caesar, who were also instrumental in Kerri being the first Australian woman invited to appear at the prestigious New Orleans Jazzfest.

Kerri's 2001 triumph, Vodou: Songs of the Spirits, was a result of her immersion into the music of New Orleans sand Haiti and field recordings made there.
On this, her first all-original album, collaborators included David Bridie, Paul Kelly, Ray Pereira and Chris Wilson. Her 1998 outing, Confessin' the Blues, received airplay in the US, Canada and Australia and was nominated in the 1999 ARIA Awards.

Early bands include Sophisticated Boom Boom, Five Aces, Swinging Sidewalks, Jumpin' Jive, Bachelors From Prague, Swing Sisters, the Mudcats and Vamos a la Gig.
